As a professor for the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, a crossroads for some of the greatest artistic voices of our generation, Jim Salvati is able to maintain a strong connection to artistic diversity, while also preserving a solid understanding of artistic styles found throughout human history. This is evident in his newest piece of Disney Fine Art. With stylized brushstrokes, and the muted background imagery, Jim Salvati is clearly paying homage to ancient Japanese emaki paintings which date as far back as the 11th Century. This is fitting because emaki works were actually painted on long scrolls and used to tell intricate stories with images, making them, in a way, a precursor to modern animation.
