Fred Machetanz - Moonlit Stakeout
The first thing before setting up camp is to stake the dogs to trees or brush so they will have a chance to stretch out and rest after the day's run. A chain is used so they cannot bite through it. The chains are about five feet long, and the dogs are positioned so they cannot reach each other. This is especially important at feeding time.

This scene was based upon my memory of my first long dog team trip back in 1935 while traveling through the forest inland from the Eskimo village of Unalakleet. The days were cold and clear. Travael and making camp in the full moonlight were experiences never to be forgotten. - FM
