The sense of wonder and vastness in the Grand Canyon is nearly overwhelming. I find the multiplicity of rock in the Canyon to be quite striking;rocks are broken away everywhere, making interesting patterns.

The flights of the birds of the area set off the scale of the landscape. Ravens - heroes of the Grand Canyon - seem to fly about for the sheer fun of it. It was here that I first saw a bird fly upside-down;it flipped over and back again as it was chased by another bird. - PE
