My interest was in the composition, the contrast and the lighting conditions. There are some subtle things happening between the shadow side of the boat and the sunlit water and the range of colors in between the two. It was an exercise in warm and cool colors and playing them off against one another. I don't usually work in a square format so that was an interesting challenge, too.

I tried to capture what the Maine coast feels like to me in this particular circumstance. It's one of my favorite areas. It's unspoiled, somewhat rugged and still wild. Sailing there today could be like sailing there a hundred years ago. It has a timeless quality. - CB
