Dean Morrissey comes to Gallery One
Friday, Dec. 1 (6-9PM) and Saturday Dec. 2 (12-6PM)
Master story-teller Dean Morrissey will make his
much-anticipated holiday appearance. In addition to being
a renowned artist, Morrissey is an award-winning
children's author whose resplendent art has dazzled art
collectors for decades. His lavishly illustrated stories
originate in The Great Kettles, an enchanted Chain of
Islands across the Sea of Time and home to The Sandman and
other legendary characters. There, even the most
familiar-looking objects are never what they seem.
Morrissey paints ordinary objects in extraordinary
settings, appealing to the child in everyone.
When Morrissey turned his considerable talents to
portraying Santa Claus, he did so with his own brand of
magic. Over the years, his paintings of Santa have become
widely sought-after by art collectors. "Morrissey's Santa
Claus portraits are timeless tributes to a beloved
figure", said Alan Brown, Gallery One president. "We
hosted Dean's first Gallery One exhibit in 1993. Art
lovers came with their small children, and Dean took the
time to talk to each child as he personalized their books
and artwork. Over the years, they have continued to
return, many now with children of their own, to greet Dean
Morrissey each time he appears at Gallery One."
Gallery One will unveil new original artwork, including a
new, never-before seen Santa original. Morrissey will give
an informal lecture at 7 p.m. Friday. He will also
personalize books and artwork for collectors both days.
The public will be treated to a free concert at the
Holiday Ring-Along with the United Hand Bell Choir at 2
p.m. on December 2 at Gallery One. Holiday gift specials
will be offered and refreshments will be served.
These FREE festive events provide an opportunity to
unwind and browse in a relaxed, inviting setting
surrounded by a huge and varied array of art.
