One of the planet's most spectacular birds of prey, the Ornate Hawk Eagle (Spizaetus ornatus) is a small, powerful forest eagle that occurs sparsely throughout the American tropics. Swift, agile and very powerful, it is capable of taking a wide range of prey, from reptiles to macaws and even smaller raptors.

Carel P. Brest van Kempen of Utah was born in 1958. He has won many awards of excellence and best of shows and illustrated many books on exotic animals. His work is in collections of the Springville Art Museum, Leigh Yawkey Art Museum, World Center for Birds of Prey, Sonora Desert Museum, Natural World Museum and the Bennington Center of the arts. He is a Master Signature Member of the Society of Animal Artists.
