Dean Morrissey - Secrets of Monticello*

Thomas Jefferson was a great patriot for this country. He was also a restless, tireless man of the world. His love and devotion to his country were second only to his love for Sally Hemings. Slavery was still a part of the world in the 18th century, and Jefferson owned slaves. Sally was one of them who lived at Monticello. Their mutual love was deep and long lasting. Jefferson and Ms. Hemings had a number of children together in a relationship that lasted almost forty years. They travelled to France together for an extended period of time.

I tried to capture a moment between the two, where Thomas Jefferson is describing for Sally Hemings the brave new world they would see together. Sally was an intellectual match for Jefferson, who was known for his keen mind and insight that would change the world. - DM
