While taking a break from posing my models, the little girl, June, went to her mother to have a thorn removed from her hand. Her brother, Julian, sat next to his mother with an expression that captivated me. His face reflected all of the pain and discomfort that this sister must have felt. I knew that I wanted to capture that moment in a painting, and I painted it just as I saw it. I never tire of watching children experience life. Everything is a new discovery, a small adventure. - JD
