Every morning at a certain spot on the beach, I would see the snowy egrets foraging at the shoreline. The early sunlight on the white feathers of those beautiful birds and the movement of the waves was a delight every day. I feel very fortunate that my publisher is located on the Gulf Coast of Florida. For a bird lover, it is the perfect place to be. Herons, egrets, cormorants, pelicans and other birds are all around you. I would not like to miss my mornings on the beach near our charming little apartment situated on a kind of rocky cliff at a place that is called Island Shores. My trips to the United States mostly start with a stay in that apartment when I sign my print editions, and we always look forward to being there. For several years now, this lovely place with all the bird life around inspired me so much that the idea came to me to title this painting Island Shores. - C. B. |

After a trip to Botswana in Southern Africa, I was surprised to learn that so many animals can survive for such long periods without any water. A very big part of Botswana is the Kalahari desert. Since there is no surface water available for much of the year, the Kalahari lion rarely drinks. The Kalahari is a monochromatic, predominantly flat country with the classical acacias, low scrub and tussocky grasses. To the north lies the delta of the Okavango river, the only river that doesn't flow to the sea, but disappears in the sand. Lion watching in the Kalahari is an adventure. One doesn't get them "on a plate" as in Kenya. You have to find and follow the tracks for a long time. It is Africa as it was discovered by the Europeans. - C. B. |

A cold, misty night can dress the scenery with a wonderful glittering ice cover, and that is what I wanted for my background.... wolves often have to travel many miles, especially in winter, to have a successful hunt. But I chose this title mainly because as a species, there are still many obstacles standing in the way of their survival. - C. B. |

The bald eagle, without any doubt one of the most beautiful birds of prey, is a favorite subject of many wildlife artists. In Europe, we have a similar species that lives on the shores of Scotland and Scandinavia, but it lacks the beautiful white head. The thrill I got in seeing a bald eagle in the wild for the first time is difficult to describe. There is no other bird that fits so well with the colors and the light of the wild landscapes in North America. - C. B. |

If a polar bear is a dangerous animal, it becomes really dangerous when it has cubs; but if there is no danger to the young, one cannot imagine a more peaceful mother. In "Mother of Pearls", I wanted to have the feeling of being part of that family, close to that big, soft, wild mother. - C. B. |
